Josh’s 30th : surprise birthday party

Over the weekend, we celebrated one of my best friend’s husband’s 30th birthday. Except it was a total surprise to him! Meredith (Josh’s wife) and I worked on this project for a couple of months, brainstorming the possibilities. Meredith booked the party at Brew’s Cafe in Granville, Ohio. It has a great atmosphere and great food (make sure you get the Turkey Bacon Cheddar Melt — to die for!) and they had a live band playing there for everyone to enjoy.

When we started working on the details of the invitation, we decided to create a logo for Josh’s birthday. However, we wanted it to resemble a beer logo since Brew’s has hundreds of different types of beer, imported & domestic. We also created the invitation to be a self-mailer so there would be no envelope required to mail his invitations out. We sealed the mailer off with a wrap address label.

I had a blast working on this invitation and all of the little details of the party. We had just the right amount of details to make it fun without it feeling like a 2 year old’s birthday (although, I’m not sure how many 2 year olds have beer themed parties, hmmmm, disturbing thought, haha).

BTW… Bob Evans couldn’t make it to the party. He had a business to run or something?? ;)

After we had the invitations out into the mail, we then decided to have coasters made as the guest party favors. We also created cupcake inserts with the logo to be placed into each of the cupcakes. Then Meredith asked if we could have a poster created that everyone could sign while at the party. What a great idea! She is going to have it framed and hang it in Josh’s “man cave” (aka garage) at their home. Really a great idea so that whenever Josh sees his poster he will be reminded of his party & how many people care and love him :) Awww! :)

Here are a few pictures from the party… it was a great time and Josh had a great time too! ;)

We can’t exactly hold it in any longer. We have some very exciting news…

We are MOVING!! Yes that’s right. We will be relocating to the Victorian Village area in Columbus next month and we are very excited to finally spill the beans (so to speak). We wanted to share a few photos of the building that we will be occupying. We also wanted to just say thanks to our friends over at Ely Bros. Photography for providing us with this opportunity. We will be sharing the space with some amazing people/businesses here in Columbus including Ely Bros. Photography. Go check them out and say hi, they’re cool people :)

So what do you think? Isn’t it beautiful? We will be occupying half of the 3rd floor (see the windows–gorgeous, right?) We’re sorry that we can’t provide anymore photos for you just yet. The space is being renovated at this time so be patient and keep checking back as we update you on the big MOVE!

If you couldn’t tell from all the exclamation points in this post, we are very excited here at Relative Designs to start meeting some fantastic clients this year in our new space! It will be great to meet in-person and discuss ideas that you have for your gorgeous wedding, big birthday bash, anniversary extravaganza, precious baby shower, personal bridal shower, etc.! We’re here to help you in your planning process and we want to hear your ideas. Let’s sit-down and plan out all the little details and together design all those details that help to make the special day even more memorable and personal. We will be setting up a calendar on our website very soon to allow us to start scheduling in-person meetings. When it’s ready, we’ll let you know and where you can find it. In the meantime, send us a message here and tell us your ideas. We look forward to hearing them!

We have so much to feel blessed about this year already. Here’s to a new adventure!

Lanie & Matt : Winter Destination Wedding

Not sure if it has anything to do with the huge amount of snow we’re getting today or not but I’m loving this wedding and thought I would share. I actually tweeted about this wedding a couple days ago and wanted to blog about it but am just now getting around to it. I promise to be better about blogging this year and will share more weddings & other events with you. Pinky swear :)

So if you are one of the lucky (lucky? would that be the right word?) ones to be experiencing lots of snow today or recently, I hope this warms you up and makes you smile. This winter destination wedding is from Martha Stewart Weddings, and I am absolutely LOVING it. The wedding is stunning from the setting of Beaver Creek, Colorado to all the little details. I adore the cake and the lovely and unique bouquet and boutonnieres. This makes me yearn to go the mountains… hmm… I think I see a Colorado trip coming in my very near future :)

Winter Wonderland & a Christmas freebie!

Okay so maybe it’s not quite a winter wonderland out but it is our first official snow today and I was quite excited to see it this morning :) Not to mention it’s also December 1st! That’s right! *GASP* Only 24 more days until Christmas…. EEEK!

Since it is December 1st, we decided to kick off the holiday month by offering a Christmas gift tag freebie for all our loyal followers :)  All you have to do is click the link below to download your very own custom created Christmas tags from Relative Designs! We recommend printing them on a thicker paper stock or if you’re feeling fancy, or you just have the paper laying around, use adhesive back paper (such as the Avery brand). Just print, cut them out, peel and stick the tag right onto your gifts. For free! Hooray!

Remember with all the hustle and bustle of this time of year, please take time to SLOW DOWN & enjoy the month of December with those you love <3

Happy Holidays :)

Engaged. YAY!! Uh oh, now what?

So you just got engaged. YAY, FUN, EXCITING… Uh oh, now what? Then come the questions from family and friends. When is it? Where is it? What time? Who are your bridesmaids? How many flower girls? Where is the reception? Are you inviting your 4th cousins? You mean, you haven’t done that yet?!!!!!

Ok. Take a deep breath. It is not the end of the world and you will survive this. We promise you.

So where to start? We suggest collecting pictures now of the things that inspire you so it helps you to stick with a general theme whether it’s strictly a color theme or a overall theme. Sometimes while you are looking for ideas it can distract away from your initial concept. So keep those “go-to” photos near so you can always refer to your initial ideas.  It helps, trust us. You don’t want to go crazy with those fun little birdies and soon buying so many little birdies that it looks like the Alfred hitchcock movie instead of the whimsical bird theme you initially wanted *yikes*. We suggest creating a wedding planner binder so that you can keep all your pictures in it as well as other important documents.

We highly recommend checking out www.theknot.com where you can find many ideas, answers and help for your wedding planning. We suggest checking it out especially because they offer a wonderful budgeter, checklists and also a guest list organizer. It can be a HUGE help if you don’t know where to start and their checklist is excellent.

So where do invitations come in you’re wondering? Well, we suggest to start collecting pictures of invitations that you like or themes you would like to stick to. This will help us to have a better idea of what exactly you are envisioning. We want to be able to provide you with exactly what you’ve always dreamed of and by providing us with your ideas in the form of photos, it will most certainly help us to achieve that.

And to help you along your way, we have created for you a wedding stationery timeline to keep in your wedding planner binder. This will help you to plan accordingly for your wedding initiation stationery.

Don’t worry, you’ll make it and the day will be beautiful. Best Wishes & Happy Planning :)

Dez & Ryan – Wedding Invitations

We recently had the opportunity to work on another classy wedding invitation for a couple that are also our  good friends. We are very pleased to share with you what we created for Dez and Ryan. Included in the custom-made linen wedding invitation set is the invitation with a swarovski crystal gem, RSVP postcard, reception card, mailing envelope, completed with a black shimmer ribbon to tie the items together.

We are honored to have been able to create their wedding invitations & we wish them both a happy life together <3

Maggie & Kevin – Wedding Invitations

First of all, I cannot write this post without mentioning that Maggie’s wedding is near & dear to my heart because she is one of my very best friends in the entire world. This is a girl that I grew up with since I was wee little. I am both honored to be able to help & also overjoyed to be helping my best friend plan the wedding of her dreams. Yes I know… mushy mushy. I can’t help it. I’m so happy for her.

Anyway—I dug up some of the old funny photos before writing this. Mags is the girl that is in about 98% of my photos from my childhood so it was not tough to find lots of pictures with her. I’ll spare you (and more importantly spare us the embarrassment– yikes) from seeing all 8 million pictures but I will share a couple funny ones. We were so silly & we have tons of memories together.

For example, I found these “gems” while I was going through my old picture shoe box. If you look at the note on the right, it’s my guess that we probably didn’t receive any extra credit because 1) we didn’t give the note to the teacher 2) it was a horrible attempt at extra credit & 3) we can’t spell credit.

P.S. I think I wrote the word PLEASE… in red… probably to emphasize that we really needed the extra “cretit” – ha :) — We were silly kids.

Now for their wedding invitations…

We have been so excited about Maggie & Kevin’s wedding invitations for months & we are happy to finally show them off! We worked with Maggie, Kevin & Maggie’s mom, Connie (supermom!) to create a custom monogram & custom made invitations. Everything was handmade. Yes– you heard that right h.a.n.d.m.a.d.e. :)

Lovely invites for a lovely couple. I cannot wait for their special day <3
